This course examines the theory and application of international marketing from a global, rather than a US-centered viewpoint. International management issues are examined both from the perspective of small and mid-sized businesses, as well as multi-national firms. The course also focuses on ethical issues concerning the global diversity of customs and morals, environmental issues, and the impact of trade.

This is a course in basic accounting including an emphasis on understanding how systems work, analysis of transactions, journals and ledgers, financial statements, and accounting information as a management tool.

BU430 Managerial Finance (3)

This course is based on the foundations ofBU332. After an initial overview of the role of financial markets and a review of accounting statements, the techniques used in financial planning and forecasting are examined. Methods of projecting profitability of various decisions are studied, as well as management of assets and means of short-term financing. Discounted cash flows methods are explained and applied to capital outlay decisions. Finally, financing choices such as the sale of bonds, common stock, and preferred stock are compared; and other financial techniques for preserving cash are reviewed.

CL431 Introduction to Christian Leadership and Church Administration (3)

 This course sets out the theological and biblical models of church leadership. It focuses on planning, theory, skills and the development of knowledge and skills necessary to lead a congregation in the actual exercise of its ministries and duties.

CM121 Vocation for Ministry (2)

This course will provide a practical approach for students to be introduced to the Bible. The course will also help students to discover their spiritual gifts for ministry through the development and practicing of the spiritual disciplines.

CM331 Pastoral Theology (3)

This is a formation course specially prepared for people called into pastoral ministry. It orients the students to the life of ministry and encourages them to reflect on the nature of their calling, spiritual walk and spiritual gifts. It introduces the students to the many aspects of the cutting-edge issues they will have to face in the ministry and to help them to be prepared to face the task. It is also the development of a theory which includes the major elements of church administration and shows the relationship of church leaders to the field and its functions.

MI232 Evangelism and Church Growth (3)

This course is designed to equip the student to lead the lost to Christ and to familiarize the student with strategies for church growth, Attention will be given to follow-up procedures. They will examine evangelism as seen in the Old and New Testament and the Incarnation, particularly, God’s mission of the Incarnation; and how Jesus proclaimed the Timeless Gospel in Galilee and sent the Church into the World to proclaim the Timeless Gospel. The course consists of lectures, discussions, assigned readings, role play and practical experience in soul winning.

MI332 Introduction to World Missions (3) 

This course is a survey of the expansion of the Christian Faith from its beginnings to the present time.  Attention will be given to emerging factors, themes, and practices contributing to advance or decline at key historical junctures and assesses the present state of Christianity in its worldwide spread.  Another aspect of the course will deal with the realities of present-day mission work.

MI432 Introduction to Church Planting (3)  

An orientation to the theological, sociological and practical dimensions of starting new churches in the Caribbean and other lands. This includes one or more field experiences. Prerequisite: MI232 Evangelism and Church Growth.

MU131 Music and Worship (3)  

This course is designed for the purpose of understanding the role of music within Christian worship and how such music can be used within a cultural context.  We will study the meaning of worship and its theology as a foundation for examining the various functions of music within worship.  In our study, we will take a brief look at some of the historical factors that have influenced the change and development of music in Christian worship through the years.  We will also pay attention to criteria for analyzing the quality of Christian songs and principles for selecting music for various purposes within the ministry of the church. Part of the class will be devoted to the study of music theory and conducting.

PC231 Introduction to Pastoral Care and Counseling (3)  

This course seeks to equip students to understand and apply sound principles of pastoral counseling within the Caribbean pastoral setting. It also seeks to acquaint students with a distinctive pastoral counseling perspective and the resources unique to this approach. Additionally, the course will introduce students to select theories and techniques applicable to pastoral counseling, and their implications for a cross-cultural context. Finally, the course will investigate pastoral counseling approaches to various problems encountered in pastoral settings.

PC432 Marriage and Family Counseling (3)  

Family systems theory provides a course framework for exploring marital and familial issues.  Special emphasis is given to the role of the counselor.  Procedures and techniques for both preventative and remedial interventions are investigated.

PC431 Pastoral Crisis Intervention (3)  

This is a study of the theory and practice of pastoral counseling crisis intervention based on the premise that crises are an essential aspect of any life and development.  The course will cover episodes of crisis in people’s lives that can lead either to disintegration or growth.  Theological and faith issues such as theodicy during crisis events will be examined.

PCTT431 Counseling Theories and Techniques (3)  

A survey of classical and contemporary theories of counseling. Attention is given to theories of personality, the development of dysfunctional problems, techniques, and application of each theory. Students will develop their view and model of counseling based upon their theological assumptions and their study of counseling theories. Readings, lectures, and role-playing are part of the course’s methodology.

PCAD 432 Child and Adolescent Counseling – 3 hrs  

This course gives a description of how to effectively respond to the unique needs of children and adolescents in a variety of settings. Developmental theory, counseling interventions and prevention strategies will be highlighted relevant to this population.

PCR431The Counseling Relationships: Process and Skills (3)

Blends counseling process theory with practice.  Students are introduced to the counseling process through readings, lectures, and a video practicum.  Attending, responding, and initiating skills are taught.  A laboratory experience for evaluating the student’s counseling is part of the course.

PCP432 Pastoral Counselling Practicum (3)

The student will be given an opportunity to develop and demonstrate personal growth as a counselor.  Students will be engaged in 150 (PC) hours of supervised practical counselling experience at various local sites.  Classroom participation, role-playing and case conferences will further allow the students opportunity to sharpen his/her interviewing and counselling skills.

PH331 Christian Ethics (3)

This course prepares students to analyze and address the moral life from a Christian perspective and introduces them to historical and contemporary sources for Christian ethics.  It explores how responses to moral problems and integrity shape the Christian community and provides a foundation for congregational/institutional responses to social and moral concerns.

PR231 Homiletics I (3)

This is the first of a two-course sequence designed as a study of the basic principles and techniques of sermon preparation and also the mental, rhetorical, psychological and spiritual aspects of sermon delivery. This course nurtures a vision of preaching as a theological and pastoral activity of the church in service of the gospel. Emphasis is placed on the life-long task of acquiring practical habits appropriate for cultivating judgment required for faithful communication of the truths of the Bible as an act of Christian worship and within the context of personal, social, and cultural challenge and change. Prerequisite: GE136 Speech and Communication.
